The Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation (UCAF) announces a significant and historic gift to KUMF Gallery’s Permanent Collection, a painting donated by the highly regarded Indigenous artist, Brian Waboose.

The acrylic painting titled The Seven Grandfathers’ Teachings: Respect, Love, Bravery, Honesty, Truth, Wisdom, and Humility features Indigenous horsemen with eagle feathered staffs against a backdrop of blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag. By presenting traditional Indigenous cultural images and myths against a background symbolic of Ukraine’s independence, Brian Waboose has created a unique and powerful work. It is dedicated to the Ukrainian people and in support of their brave stand against Russian aggression.

“This painting holds an innate artistic force, and we are excited for visitors to discover this very special work, as well as more of the UCAF’s Permanent Collection.” Christina Kudryk, Chair of UCAF Art Committee.
