Shanta Ludmila

To Ludmila Shanta, nature is the inspiration and subject matter of her paintings. She has painted flowers and still life, landscapes from around Toronto, from the Oro to the Muskoka region as well as seascapes from Miami Beach, Florida.

Ludmila employs a novel watercolour and pastel technique on sandpaper of watercolour paper. She prefers painting on location, trying to capture the atmosphere and mood of the landscape around her and not just the visual scene before her.

Through her paintings, Ludmila hopes to pass on to the viewer her excitement in the ever changing faces of landscape and the variety of colour, texture, pattern and quality of light to dark present in nature.

Ludmila Shanta has published “The Most important Thing in the World”. This book was written in thanks to God for the many graces and blessings she has received in her life, most notably, for His help in her healing and in the successful completion of her thesis for a Masters program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. This exhibition consists of illustrations, watercolours from the book and other paintings by Ludmila that range from 1986 to 2004.
